Based on the primary field survey and secondary sources of information, this book has attempted to analyze the interrelation between flow of credit and the village-level class-structure in the Indian state of West Bengal. In market economic regime the structure of the credit is generally determined by the pattern of inter-class distribution of all basic means of production such as land and non-land assets. This book shows that inequality has persisted in land and non-land assets market in West Bengal and India and it has interrelations and interdependence with credit market. This book represents the adoption of improved technology which is by and large concentrated in the hands of well-to-do labour hiring farmers and direct farming in an increasingly capitalist manner. It shows the formal credit bias towards the exploiter classes, while the exploited classes are obliged to depend on informal credit where rate of interest is higher than formal credit. By analyzing the structure of interest and collateral securities this book also shows that the process of interlinkage between rural credit and other markets has been weakened
