Heirloom Knitting is a completely revised and enlarged book that presents the exquisite lace knitting of the Shetland Isles in a clearly understandable form for both the everyday and expert knitter. It is intended as an instructive guide, and in addition to an overview and history of Shetland lace, there are helpful explanations of technique, practical tips and useful information on design, including how to develop your own patterns. To finish there is a comprehensive project section detailing typical shawls, stoles and baby jackets, rounding off with masterpieces - an intricately patterned christening robe and a recreation of an antique fine shawl. Above all though, there is a wide-ranging collection of charted patterns, classified for convenience into centres, borers and edgings. These are carefully graded to suit the learner as well as the most experienced knitter interesting creating original yet traditional knitted lace. There ought to be a warning though - this type of lace knitting can be addictive!
