Förlagets beskrivning
The Class of '39 begins a lengthy work of historical fiction designed to reach the generation of readers who have spent their lives seeing their nation immersed in conflicts that seemed to have little meaning. From Viet Nam to Afghanistan, the people of America have endured wars with little direction and even less purpose. The period leading up to World War II was a time of deep depression, devastating unemployment, and lost hope, not only in America but throughout the world. This is a story of our nations defining moments and its greatest generation. Our people found themselves seemingly attacked from all sides by unemployment, massive dust storms, torrential rains, and freezing winters, never before seen on this continent. A time when terms like ""Okie, "" ""Bindle stiff, "" ""Hoovervilles, "" ""Soup Kitchens, "" and ""Hand Outs"" became common in our everyday speech. Then, in 1933, change began in an era never seen before or since, when our people were promised a ""New Deal, "" and they got it. Then, just as it seemed that our willingness as a nation, to ""pull together"" was finally bringing us out of the Great Depression, we found ourselves threatened by a World War of massive dimensions. The Class of '39 is the first chapter in a four book story of air combat in World War II. Its characters both real and fictional were children of that Great Depression---people who had learned the importance of ""Pulling Together."" Follow them as they train to fly the fast and powerful machines that would destroy the Nazi and the Japanese Air Forces. Meet the men and women who flew them and helped to make our nation a world power
