Förlagets beskrivning

Every coach wants to figure out the perfect tactics, teach the best system of play, pick the right players and make the smartest in-game adjustments. The soccer coach is like a master chief in the kitchen. Too much of this or too little of that and the masterpiece can fall way short of it's potential, but if the chef gets it just right the outcome can be fantastic. The same can hold true for the soccer coach. Before, during or even after the game the coach may end up asking himself a ton of questions. Do I really need to mess with things or should I just leave the team the way they are? Perhaps the team is just off to a slow start and maybe they need time to work into the game? Maybe I should change things up right away because the team is getting dominated? Would it be smart to rotate new players into the game or will that disrupt their chemistry on the field? Is the line-up I picked today the best for this particular game? How does our formation match-up against the opponent's formation? Is this player starting to lose control and in danger of picking up another card? There are so many variables to consider when coaching, we can't even come close to covering them all. However, what I can provide is some insight into the thought processes involved and the options you may want to consider in regards to putting together a tactical game plan. Part of the art of coaching is being able to think on your feet in real time and be decisive about the actions or non-actions you are going to take. In order to make smart adjustments you must be in control of your emotions and keep a clear head when coaching the game. Coaches who ride an emotional roller coaster all game will probably have trouble making quality decisions. The goal of this book is to provide coaches with various trains of thought when it comes to making tactical decisions. Being exposed to multiple tactical perspectives and ideas should help when it comes to putting together your game plan. In the modern age of soccer it is not uncommon for a team to change formations three or four times in one game depending on the coach. Pep Guardiola is well known for making multiple formation changes in the same game. Then there are other top coaches who have not changed anything major tactically for years. Arsene Wenger is a very good example of that at Arsenal FC. Arsenal has a brand of soccer they believe in and they do their best to stay true to that style - usually playing some type of 4-4-2 or 4-2-3-1. I don't claim to have the magic formula for tactical success but I am confident you will find the information in "Strategize" useful. When all is said and done it is up to the coach to make the final call and game plan based upon their own past experiences in the game!
