Catfish has an easy life. He's learned where to find an easy meal and he likes his privacy. Everything changes the day he finds a small, largemouth bass caught in an old bait basket. This is the first children's book written by Cathy Heiner. On the night before she moved to Rockport, Texas, she stayed with her grandson Heith. At bedtime he said that he'd like to watch TV, but she said she had a better idea. That idea was a story about a fish, and the book Catfish was born. Knowing that Heith liked to draw, Cathy saved places in her illustrations so that he could add his own images. Because they lived so far apart at that time when the illustrations were first drawn, she wasn't sure how she was going to get drawings from him. "I wanted to include Heith's drawings because I wanted to share this experience with him, and encourage him to keep drawing." As it turned out, she moved back to Bisbee and they finalized the watercolors. Cathy has also written a Mexican cookbook that soon will be under publication. Entitled "The Language of Food - Cooking on the Frontier", the book is full of Sonoran-style recipes gathered from the women she met while living in Sonora, Mexico. She also writes eloquently about her childhood memories in the house of her beloved Italian grandmother next door. In that wonderful place, she was instilled with a love of family and cooking, which was also evident in the Mexican culture in which she lived. Look for a lot more from this new author. She will be bringing many more books to print
