Because of unavailability of actual data for estimating state-level consumer price indexes for all the states for long-term period, a theory for estimating such indexes was undertaken. For this book, they are estimated based on reasonable subjective academic assumptions, econometric relationships, and statistical computations but not based on collected data from the sample surveys in each state, similar to the sample surveys conducted by the Bureau of Labor Statistics of the United States Department of Labor for estimating the regional and national consumer price indexes. These consumer price indexes were estimated with a base equal to 100 during the period 1982-84. The estimated equations at different stages are just used to estimate approximate state level quarterly consumer price indexes for all the states during 1980-2012. These estimates of state-level quarterly consumer price indexes for all the states during the period 1980-2012 will be useful for commercial firms, research analysts in industries, not-for-profit institutions, various governments-county, state and federal-consulting firms, and professionals in various academic institutions. The potential buyers and users of this book could estimate the state-level annual, monthly, and quarterly consumer price indexes for future years, using the procedures explained in this book, if they desire to have for their research or for any other use in various institutions
