Förlagets beskrivning
This important and up-to-date electronic book on CD-ROM provides comprehensive coverage of the Bethesda National Naval Medical Center (NNMC) in Bethesda, Maryland. The Medical Center states: "The National Naval Medical Center (NNMC) is one of our Nation's most renowned military health systems, where over 34, 000 patients choose primary care at our main facility in Bethesda, Maryland, and at branch clinics in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Virginia, and the District of Columbia. NNMC has a long tradition of excellence, and is historically known as The President's Hospital. For over 60 years, we have cared for sailors and marines as well as all for service members and their families. What could be more important? Nothing, to us. Here at NNMC, you will find the finest physicians, nurses, and health care providers in the military health system. No stone is left unturned in providing you the best care and service. Based on the philosophy that "an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure, " an array of prevention and wellness programs and services helps families to maintain quality of life. At the same time, expert teams of treatment specialists are prepared, when needed, to collaborate and thoroughly investigate and treat patient problems." In 1938, Congress appropriated funds for the acquisition of land for the construction of a new Naval medical center, and President Franklin D. Roosevelt selected the present site in Bethesda, Maryland, on July 5, 1938. When President Roosevelt saw the spring-fed pond on the land, it reminded him of the Biblical "Pool of Bethesda", a place of healing and renewal, and felt it would be a perfect spot for the medical center. Ground was broken for the Naval Medical Center on June 29, 1939 by Rear Admiral Percival S. Rossiter, MC, USN, (Ret.), the former U.S. Surgeon General whose steadfast support helped to make the project a reality. President Roosevelt laid the cornerstone of the Tower on Armistice Day, November 11, 1940
