Everybody sells! Selling yourself to get a job, selling your child on why he or she should do or not do something, selling your spouse or significant other on a major purchase, vacation, etc. How about selling your boss on the reasons you deserve a raise and the list goes on and on.
To be successful in selling anything, one must be empathetic, a good listener, ask questions and truly want a win-win situation and yes, it does help to have a bit of persuasiveness to your tone and choice of words. All of this is true in our professional life as well, but we are adding our experience, expertise, knowledge and professionalism to the mix while using our own personality.
This book is geared towards selling in professional life, not our personal lives, although clearly everybody sells in both environments. Additionally, this book can apply to many types of people, not just professionals, consultants and the self-employed. Most people in business, who don't have traditional sales experience or sales training, yet have some kind of selling role, can identify with at least one of these broad categories of people. It's also important to note that the book is written with a business-to-business sales approach, but again, much can be applied to direct selling to consumers as well.
You'll find that the chapters are designed to be short for a quick read and easy reference or refresher for later reading. Additionally, you'll be introduced to basic marketing concepts because the sales component falls within the marketing umbrella. Although sales and marketing are two distinct disciplines, they each offer their own unique techniques and are designed to work together, not operate separately. We'll elaborate on their differences and how they should synergistically work together
