The Author of the following Observations bears fo exalted a Character in the World, for his Knowledge in the Art he professes, that no Preface is wanting to recommend, or give a Glofs to his Performances.
From a just Persuasion of the Advantage that will accrue to young Surgeons from a Work of this Kind, I thought I could not better employ Hours absent from Bu-finefs, than by rendering these Observations into Eng-lifti, for the Benefit of thofe young Students who are Strangers to the original Language. In this I have only pursued the Author's Intention to his own Country-men, and endeavoured to ferae my own, by communicating to them what he thought so useful to his.
The Manner in which these Observations are delivered, by an Introduction to each Cafe, and Remarks there-on, are so pleasing, that they mufi naturally captivate even thofe who have a fiender Knowledge in Surgery, and be admired by others more expert in that Art. The whole is conducted with that Judgment, Sagacity, and Penetration, supported by the pwofoundeft Knowledge in Anatomy and Animal ?conemy; his Operations performed so judicially, and with so much Humanity and paternal Tenderness to his Fellow-Creatures, that he ' jufily deferves thofe Honours the King conferred upon him, and that univerfal Esteem of Mankind he enjoys.
