Excerpt: Augusto Mijares Salvador Augusto Mijares Izquierdo (12 November 1897 - 29 June 1979), was a Venezuelan lawyer, historian, writer, educator and journalist. Better known for his biography about Simón Bolívar , entitled El Libertador . Mijares was born in Villa de Cura , Aragua state in 1897, son of Daniel Mijares and Josefa Izquierdo. Attended primary education at the Salesian Institute of Caracas, and secondary at the San Agustín and National schools. In 1912, started his career as lawyer at the Central University of Venezuela (UCV), graduating in 1920. For 1915, at the age of 17, works as teacher at the Andrés Bello school. From that, starts his career as educator. In 1938, graduated from the Pedagogical Institute of Caracas. Also obtains the doctorate in Political Science and a Honorary degree from the Central University. Was founder of the school of Arts of this institution. Between 1946 until 1949, Mijares works as director at the Education Ministry. For 1949, is appointed as Minister, creating the Tricolor magazine, a educational publication for children, and introduced the Provisional Statute of Education, that continued until 1955. Also, was director of the National Archives and Ambassador of Venezuela in Spain . In 1955 won the National Award of Literature for the book La Luz y el Espejo (The Light and the Mirror).
