March.--Mr. Fawcett's death having occasioned a vacancy for the city of Carlisle, Mr. Rowland Stephenson commenced a canvass, which, however, he was prevented from following up, when Sir Philip Musgrave started in opposition to Mr. Curwen, which canvass was carried on with too much asperity and violence on both sides. Sir Philip narrowly escaped with his life, and two unoffending persons met their death in the streets of Carlisle.
