Förlagets beskrivning

The Illusion of Hopelessness was inspired by Craig Trowhill, who lived the "street experience" - gangs, drugs, and violence. After discovering Martial Arts and Coaching, he turned his life around to be of service, working with youth caught in the juvenile court system in Toronto, Canada. Craig had a dream of publishing a book that would send a message to youth: "If I can turn my life around, so can you!" What Craig learned from his own and his young clients' experiences is that when youth have a safe environment, they can learn to discover their unique talents, believe in their own abilities, take responsibility for their choices, trust themselves and others, and live more to their potential. Told through interviews of Craig and others who are incorporating a Coaching approach in their programs, The Illusion of Hopelessness shares how aspects of the Coaching model are being used successfully across a range of programs for youth-at-risk. Parents - you will learn effective ways of supporting your youth through their adolescent years-and beyond-for a healthy, happy, and productive life. Community Service organizations - you will see opportunities to contribute to breaking the cycle of poverty, violence, and abuse for our youth. Nonprofits - you will validate your vision and mission, and inspire new models for greater effectiveness working with youth at risk, and learn new tools, best practices, and resources. Youth inspired by Craig Trowhill's story - you will learn that you have the strengths and capacities to live true to who you are. Educators, Law Enforcement, Social Service, or Foster Care - you will see how you can apply the empowerment approach in your connections with youth. Coaches - you will learn ways of applying your skills in community service and with youth
