Elizabeth Kubler-Ross is the world's foremost expert on the subjects of death, dying, and the afterlife. Born in 1926 in Switzerland, Kubler-Ross received her M.D. from the University of Zurich in 1957. She practiced general medicine in Switzerland before coming to the United States, where she began working with the dying while teaching psychiatry at the University of Chicago in 1958. Her seminal work, On Death and Dying, first published in 1969, candidly discusses the fear of death and the five stages people go through after they learn they are dying. On Death and Dying was immediately recognized as a landmark book by both professionals and the reading public. The sequel, Questions and Answers on Death and Dying consists of Kubler-Ross's answers to the most frequently asked questions about the care of the dying. And, in the four essays of On Life After Death, she addresses near-death experiences and how to face the death of a parent.
