Förlagets beskrivning
What can we learn from the past that may be relevant to modern clinical research ethics?
In this book Allan Gaw and Michael Burns show us how the past can illuminate the present and help us understand where we are and how we have come to be here. The authors present a series of intriguing stories that take us from a ship in the Royal Navy in the mid 18th century to a backwater in the US in the early 19th century and on to Cuba at the dawn of the 20th century, by way of the offices of a Harvard academic and a courtroom in Nuremberg. On this journey through the history of research ethics we are shown examples of the best and the worst. In each case the theme is one that is relevant today and one, which, if we are involved in clinical research in any capacity, we must address.
