This is the first volume in a new series of books which has emerged out of the Fiscal Austerity and Urban Innovation (FAUI) Project - the most extensive study of local government in the United States and Europe. Urban Innovation and Autonomy investigates how and why urban innovation occurs and considers the effects of innovative policies on the autonomy of local groups and local communities.
Each chapter analyzes innovative urban policies within a particular country by addressing a core set of questions, using standard methodology and common format. The countries covered include America, France, Finland, Denmark, Norway and the Netherlands. A comparative analysis of the results is presented in the concluding chapter
