Ridiculous and Unhelpful (Betyg 1 av 5)
My parents got me two books for the ACT: The Barron's and the Kaplan. I tried the Barron's first but I couldn't even finish the Diagnostic Exam. The questions were ridiculously difficult. Some of the ones on the reading section required outside knowledge and a lot on the other sections seemed like they were just making stuff up. I got bored in the middle of the science section and just quit, and when I was scoring it I multiplied my score by two. My composite was 25. This is coming from someone who got a 225 on the PSAT. I understand that the Diagnostic is supposed to be hard to get you hooked and think that you need the book, but in this case it worked against them. I used the Kaplan book, spent 45 minutes reading the English sections, and got a 35 on their online practice English test. If I sound like I'm just whining because Barron's gave me a lower score than I thought I deserved, here is an example question:
A question had a graph. Y was the deaths per 100,000 people and X was estimated fat intake per person. The question asked what the average fat intake was for countries were the death rate was about 13 or 14 per 100,000. I went to 13-14 on the graph. On the far left was Portugal at around 75 and on the right, Finland at about 120, and Hungary was in the middle a little right of 100. One answer choice was 100 g/day. 75, 102, and 120 average out to about 100, so I put that. The correct answer was "from 70 to 120 g/day". What? You asked for the average, not the range!
