Förlagets beskrivning
Arguing that there is a large theory-practice gap in cultural awareness in
both nurse education and clinical practice, this text encourages an awareness
of culture by looking at the meaning of culture and its relevance to student
nurses and teachers in education and practice. The authors explore cultural
issues in areas such as mental health nursing, child- and family-centred care,
care of the elderly, and men and women's health care, and in so doing, they
encourage reflective practice and an acceptance of the need to provide
culturally appropriate education and practice. Examples and case studies from a
large number of cultural groups are used throuhgout to show students the link
between theories and their clinical practice. This text argues that it is essential that nurses and nursing students
understand and practice care that is culturally sensitive. Therefore, the text
aims to encourage an awareness of culture by looking at its meaning and
relevance in the health care environment.
